Description
The Mimbres culture, an offshoot of the Anasazi, frequented the southwest Americas circa 200 to 1150 AD. Now extinct for several hundreds of years the Mimbres legacy continues to exist in the remnants of small to large bowls upon which they painted the wonderful natural world that surrounded them. This reproduction bowl of a stylized serpent is rich in design and delicately painted. It was wood fired in an earthen pit and has emerged from the cooled ashes as a beautiful testimony to the art and talent of the prehistoric culture that once created it. The piece is hand built and painted with homemade yucca and hairbrushes. Tradition processing techniques rendered its surface with fantastic fire clouds and a smoky patina that can only be obtained from the use of these primitive skills. The bowl was abraded, stressed, edges chipped, and finally a hole (kill hole) shot through its core. This bowl is authentic looking in every way and could easily be mistaken as an original by all but the most educated collector or astute archeologist. Although a replication "Serpent Bowl" is a fine representation of the art once made by the long ago Mimbres Culture. At Starling Black Studio our goal is to recreate realistic replications of artifacts we have seen in museums and publications. We hope you enjoy the result of our efforts. Thank you for looking.Specifications: Seven (7) inches diameter bowl
