    Description

**LOCAL PICK UP ONLY IN CHICAGO NW SUBURBS (60193 SCHAUMBURG AREA)**
In the early 1960s, when my mother was around 19 or 20, she worked at The Merchandise Mart, a huge department store in downtown Chicago that no longer exists. She bought this Noritake dish set ("Galaxy" pattern) for my grandmother (her mother) as a gift. She thinks my grandma used them maybe once (!) and then stored them away. They were so beautiful that I asked to have them once my grandmother passed. Sadly, I never ended up using them, and I don't have the room to store them anymore, so I'm hoping they find a good home. I am only one person and do not have the occasion to do a lot of entertaining.
If you can't use the whole set, consider going in on the purchase with a friend and split it up between yourselves according to your needs :-)
Please note that in some places, the silver is worn or imperfect due to age. I photo'd two plates that had issues. There are NO chips or cracks because my grandma took care of them and so did I. When the buyer comes to pick them up, I would ask that they
    carefully examine
every piece for as long as they need, as once the transaction is complete, there would be no refunds or discounts for issues seen after the fact. Thank you for your understanding. :-)
    What's in the set?
    12 Dinner plates, 10.5”
    12 Appetizer / coffee cup saucers, 6.5”
12 Saucers for coffee cups or tea cups, 6”
    8 Teacups, 4” across top, approx 2 3/4” high
    12 Coffee cups, a little under 3.5” across, approx 2 3/4” high
The set is really lovely despite some minor silver flaws that occurred due to age and storage. The photos don't do them justice. In person, they have a beautiful simplicity that seems to be able to match any table setting. I would say they are not dishwasher or microwave safe, but I am not sure. I would recommend handwashing only. Lovely to use, display, or give as a wedding or shower gift. The cups are very light and delicate and have a good feel in the hand. I hate to let them go, but if someone else can enjoy them, then that will make me happy. They aren't doing anybody good here sitting in the box waiting for someone to use them.
The box will be very heavy to take these with you, so please bring help to carry it if you are not in physical shape to carry it. If my Dad is around at the time, he can help carry it, but please do not bank on this. I am on the second floor, so there are stairs involved. I am not able to carry the box down the stairs - I am 105 lbs and quite weak in the arms. :-)
Thank you very much for looking and reading this. I hope you'll look at my other listings for more fun stuff - my parents are downsizing and have asked me to list items for them. I also have many Disney items and Japanese things. :-)
